To invoke and pay tribute to Maximón, or San Simón, the Guatemalan folk saint: a rebalancer. He represents both light and dark, and is a trickster who was known both as a womanizer and a guardian of virtuous couples. He's an elevated ancestor - a man who did exist but was resurrected as a folk saint by virtue of the belief of his followers.
Offerings for Maximón are cigarettes - especially rollies, homemade liquor or moonshine/hooch, and cash. He's said to clear obstacles, break sorcery (hexes, jinxes), and bringing wealth.
